Finding solutions to support young people during lockdown

We now know that lockdown will be with us in its most rigid form until at least March 8th. We are used to lockdown now: the home schooling, the boredom, weariness, loneliness and isolation. For many people it is even worse and we know that for young people here in Buckinghamshire the levels of anxiety, self harm, eating disorders and even suicide have risen sharply in recent months.

These personal and family tragedies are dwarfed by the numbers who have succumbed to covid 19 and the millions facing job losses or catastrophic financial situations. The sheer volume and diversity of problems is overwhelming and becomes a problem in its own right.

At Action4Youth we are working on the elephant eating principle: how do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time. We know that each of the problems faced by young people has a remedy and our focus is on ensuring the solutions are available, as far as possible now, and there will be more in the future. Working in collaboration or partnership with both statutory and charity partners we can develop and deliver the programmes and solutions which will enable our young people to find their way back from this most difficult of times and to regain their confidence in the future.

We need the whole community to embrace initiatives for a better future which means individuals and companies offering to volunteer, support or partner with us. Together, we can make a difference.
