Action4Youth News Aug 2024

Since the end of July, we’ve been running our Holiday Activities and Food programme (HAF) at The Junction in High Wycombe as well as The Caldecotte Xperience in Milton Keynes.

Children and young people who have free school meals in term time, have been having a ball at The Caldecotte Xperience and The Junction over the summer holidays as they take part in the Holiday Activities and Food programme. They have enjoyed a hot meal each day and had fun with friends doing a blend of sports, fitness, cooking and getting creative with arts & crafts.

We believe in making every day of the programme a memorable experience for the young people

Nearly 200 young people, aged 16 and 17, have participated in the National Citizen Service (NCS) this summer. Most took part at The Caldecotte Xperience, while others attended sessions at West Runton in Norfolk, Green Park, and Aston Clinton—all led by Action4Youth’s dedicated team.

I just wanted to say a huge thank you for the most fabulous week. My daughter had an amazing time, met incredible new friends, loved the activities and learnt a huge amount too. The group leaders were phenomenal and the whole organisation was exceptional. Clearly an enormous amount of effort goes into running such rewarding and memorable weeks for these young people and that is down to the fantastic team of leaders and organisers. So a massive thank you for all your hard work. The information at every step of the way has also been very impressive. Have a super weekend and big thanks again.” A happy Mother.

ABOUT NCS:
Action4Youth in partnership with the National Citizen Service (NCS) deliver impactful experiences for young people in Southeast England. This programme, aimed at 16-17-year-olds, focuses on building essential life skills, providing challenges, and offering opportunities for personal growth.

Activities such as First Aid courses, financial challenges, and cooking competitions help participants explore real-life scenarios in a supportive environment, allowing them to gain valuable insights and confidence without the pressure of full responsibility.

Tracy, the Inspiration Programme Manager at Action4Youth, recently had the privilege of attending a performance of We Will Rock You at the Centenary Theatre. The show was particularly special, as it featured several alumni of the programme: Henry, who served as the assistant stage manager, and Edie and Lucy, who took on main roles.
The experience was deeply moving for Tracy, as she witnessed firsthand the significant positive impact the programme has had on these young people’s confidence. The performance truly underscored the transformative power of the programme in nurturing and showcasing the talents of its participants.

Highlight of the Month

We are deeply grateful to MK Community Foundation, Forvis Mazars and their Mazars Charitable Trust, Grand Union Rotary Club, and Vinci for their continuous and generous support in helping us purchase much-needed equipment for The Caldecotte Xperience. We look forward to sharing the full stories with you next month.

Our partners and fundraisers were very busy this month organising amazing events to raise much needed funds for Action4Youth as well as giving their time to volunteer. Here’s what happened:

The NHBC Senior Leadership team volunteered their time and got their hands dirty with renovations and refurbishment at The Caldecotte Xperience.

Saturday 3 August saw the 9th Redway Runners Beat the Barge event at Great Linford Manor Park, Milton Keynes. The event was a great success with 186 participants.
Thank you to everyone who participated and for raising funds for Action4Youth as the club’s charity of the year!

On Wednesday 14 August NHBC had their Big Volunteering Bush Clearing Day at The Caldecotte Xperience. Many hands made for light work and they managed to clear the perimeter of the building opposite the climbing wall.
