Action4Youth Enables Young People to Gain PE GCSE Individual Practical Performance units in Canoeing, Kayaking and Climbing

Action4Youth, a leading charity in Milton Keynes and working throughout Buckinghamshire, providing positive experiences to inspire children and young people, has become one of the UKs first to provide local schools with the facilities and skills they need to obtain Individual Practical Performance units for PE, through water sports and climbing.

Working closely with its outdoor education centre, the Caldecotte Xperience, Action4Youth offers a targeted approach to the school’s own aims and objectives with real and measurable outcomes.

Action4Youth provides Edexcel courses at its AALA licenced centre, enabling young people to achieve a qualification doing something a bit more adventurous and out of the ordinary to the standard GCSE options. Each discipline can be covered in a variety of ways including weekly sessions, full days or during a one or two night residential stay.

Jenifer Cameron, Chief Executive of Action4Youth explains: “We are really excited to be able to support local schools in offering young people activities such as canoeing, kayaking and climbing at GCSE level. We hope that this opportunity will help to broaden students’ thinking, in terms of the scale and scope of what they can achieve and the options available to them upon completion of their qualifications.”

Glen Swain, Subject Leader at Stopsley High School explains: “The aim for our students taking the new GCSE PE was to provide a residential trip that allowed them to develop their climbing and Kayaking skills and be fully assessed in line with the new specification. Caldecotte Xperience was able to deliver a bespoke service that met all of our needs. Their specialist instructors challenged and guided our students to ensure successful outcomes.

“We have already made bookings for next years’ students.”
