BOOST!

For young people of secondary school age, exclusively from SEND schools, Pupil Referral Units and alternative education provisions.

What is Boost!

BOOST! is a personal development programme for young people of secondary school age, exclusively from SEND schools, Pupil Referral Units and alternative education provisions. Over five days it builds confidence, resilience and develops those vital life skills whilst preparing for the world of work. Action4Youth delivers BOOST! across Bucks, Milton Keynes, Slough, Windsor and Maidenhead, Reading, Herts, Beds, Oxon and Northamptonshire.

Action4Youth has been successfully delivering a range of programmes to these groups of young people for many years and understands the particular circumstances and challenges faced. BOOST! has been developed to support, stimulate and encourage independence and confidence in the future based on knowledge and experience.

The Benefits for Young People

Young people will:

  • Develop life skills and support independent living
  • Build employability and work-readiness
  • Learn how to build resilience and overcome challenge
Improve soft skills such as teamwork, communication, problem solving and leadership

How it works

BOOST! Is a five day programme which can run through one entire school week or for one day each week over five weeks to suit your school.

Days one and two are based at an outdoor education centre, doing three adventure activities each day which focus on challenge, problem solving, teamwork and leadership. These activities include water sports, climbing, caving, archery and much more! The centre is fully accessible, has appropriate equipment and staff are very experienced in working with young people with disabilities and additional needs.

Days three to five will be based back on the school premises and young people will follow a tailored programme, based on their education setting and needs. There will be some sessions which are standard across all programmes, such as Street First Aid, mental resilience, budgeting and cooking. For the remaining sessions staff will choose from a list of additional options which include healthy relationships and consent, money for life, drug and alcohol awareness, confident speaking, work readiness and more.
