A leading local charity, providing a range of enrichment programmes for young people, has received grant funding from Wycombe District Council for an innovative Young People Mentoring programme, which aims to provide guidance and support to troubled teens.
Action4Youth is one of two organisations selected to receive a grant, which will fund engagement activity to identify and work with ‘at-risk’ young people, supporting them in overcoming their particular challenges and connecting them with positive pathways that will help them achieve their potential.
The charity will draw on its strong partnerships with youth organisations, schools and relevant agencies, including Thames Valley Police, Children’s and Adolescent Mental Health Services and local authorities to address deep-rooted problems that exist within local communities at an early stage, helping to ensure the best possible chance of real improvement in the lives of young people.
Cllr David Carroll, Cabinet Member for Youth and External Partnerships, said: “Our vision is to help young people facing exceptional challenges, and as a result lacking the opportunities, to achieve their goals in life.
“Action4Youth is a great organisation carrying out outstanding work, and together we can focus on delivering a more positive future for some of our most vulnerable young people.”
On Tuesday 19 February representatives of Action4Youth and Wycombe Wanderers Sport and Education Trust, the only other organisation to receive this funding, visited the WDC offices to meet with Cllr Carroll and discuss the project.
Jenifer Cameron, CEO of Action4Youth explains: “Action4Youth is delighted to be involved in this innovative and imaginative initiative, working with WDC and Cllr Carroll. We know that many young people in Wycombe District will benefit from our mentoring programme and as a result the community will be strengthened.”
Action4Youth hopes that the success of the programme in High Wycombe will enable it to access additional grants from other funders and district councils in order to offer the programme to more vulnerable young people throughout the county.
