EXPEDITIONS FOR SCHOOLS
How we work with schools
Action4Youth makes it easy for your school students to complete the expedition phase of their Duke of Edinburgh Award, whether at Bronze, Silver or Gold level without making any demands on teachers who are not required to attend. Many schools find organising these expeditions makes unreasonable demands on already intensely busy staff so Action4Youth is at hand to ease the burden and make all arrangements and see your students successfully and safely complete their expedition.
We are happy to come to your school to speak with parents, teachers or the groups and can run sessions on food on the expedition.
We can run either or both training and qualifying expeditions to meet your needs so please get in touch on dofe@action4youth.org to discuss.
The Expeditions
We offer walking and paddling expeditions on carefully planned routes in appropriate locations for all 3 Award levels from March to October each year. For the Bronze Award, a convenient location close to your school may suit but for Silver and Gold Expeditions, we find the best location with the right level of challenge. We can operate anywhere in the UK.
Paddling expeditions on Stand Up Paddleboards or canoes are a fun adventure and can suit those less able to walk a distance.
We will secure suitable camp sites for all expeditions and sometimes welcome groups to our own campsite at The Caldecotte Xperience on the edge of Milton Keynes.
All of our expeditions are planned and supervised by our qualified staff, ensuring a safe adventure for all the young people working towards their award. We can arrange fully accessible expeditions designed to meet your group’s needs.
Equipment
We provide all group equipment including tents, trangias, team rucksack covers, maps and compasses . Each group has a tracker so our supervisors know exactly where they are at all times to ensure safety.
Transport
We are happy to provide transport for up to 12 participants in our minibus. Transport for up to 14 is included in the cost for Gold Expeditions.
