Big Night Out focuses on ‘Coping with Change’

On 11 September, more than 1,000 young people from Buckinghamshire, Milton Keynes and the surrounding counties, came together at The Aylesbury Waterside Theatre for Action4Youth’s annual celebration event.

This year, speakers including Reverend Richard Coles, Sir Henry Aubry-Fletcher and Countess Howe, focused on the theme of ‘Coping with Change’, discussing everything from the global situation, our climate and the uncertainty of our national political position.

Throughout the celebrations, examples of how locally based charity Action4Youth is helping to prepare young people to face the challenges of the future were revealed, and many successes, through Action4Youth’s NCS, DofE and Young Leaders programmes were awarded.

Reverend Richard Coles delivered a light-hearted speech which inspired “the possible” in the young people, drawing on his own remarkably varied journey, and a special dedication was given to Action4Youth’s founding chair, Ken Birkby, who will retire later this month.

“Tens of thousands of young people have better lives because of Ken Birkby” explained Sir Henry Aubry-Fletcher, which is why “from now on, the outstanding achievement award will be known as The Ken Birkby Outstanding Achievement Award.”

Jenifer Cameron CEO of Action4Youth says: “We enjoyed another fantastic celebration event, with many special moments and memories shared by and with the inspirational young people who have taken part in Action4Youth’s programmes and activities during the past year.

“I would like to say a big thank you to our sponsors, NHBC, iElive, Buckinghamshire College Group, City Store Self Storage, Alexander & Co and Your Print Solutions, without them we wouldn’t be able to celebrate the successes of the young people in Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes.”
